Let’s Talk About Medigap – and Save the Date for AEP!
Hi, friend!
I hope you have had a great summer as we look ahead to a beautiful fall season in Richmond. This month, I want to share a bit about Medigap.
If you have Original Medicare (Parts A & B), Medigap – also called Medicare Supplement Insurance – is private coverage that can help pay for out-of-pocket costs like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
Here are a few key points:
To buy Medigap, you must already be enrolled in Medicare Part A & B.
The best time to buy is during your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, which begins the first month you have Medicare Part B and you are 65+ years old. During this window, insurance companies can’t deny you coverage due to pre-existing health conditions.
All Medigap policies are standardized nationwide, which means that all plans labeled with the same letter (A, B, C, D, F, G, K–N) offer the same benefits. The price is the only difference between insurers.
While Medigap helps cover out-of-pocket costs associated with Original Medicare, it does not include prescription drugs, dental or vision care, hearing aids, long-term care, or private nursing care.
Medigap policies don’t work with Medicare Advantage; you must be on Original Medicare to use Medigap.
As always, I’m here for you and am happy to answer any questions you have. ❤
